On perfectionism and open sharing

On perfectionism and open sharing

Since 2020, I've been developing the idea to create this website. There were times when I had a creative spark and presence, great ideas flooded my brain, and I was really in a creating mode.

I took a lot of notes. I have notebooks filled with content. But then my rational mind came back. Sure, it has its place, but once it took over and didn't just contribute for quality assurance and instead wanted to be the boss of the show, it also introduced another guest at the table, called perfectionism. And that guest had something to say against everything that I was about to do. Which led to me not doing anything at all.

Maybe you know it from your own project. It's detrimental and can slow down the progress of the project or stop it altogether.

Now, at the time of this writing, which is November 2024, after having reached the same conclusion a couple of times in the past four years, I officially state here that I allow myself to not let perfectionism get in the way anymore and introduce another concept: open sharing. Other people have coined the term "building in public".

This basically means that I won't adhere this publication to a standard that is usually required to run an online magazine or publication with a commercial focus or any kind of focus, and just make this an open notebook. I share openly what I've learned. This also means that it's never complete.

I have no desire for being 100% correct. I'm not an expert in any of this. I'm just a curious learner, sharing what I'm learning as I learn and apply. I'm not here to talk down on anyone. I'm not here to teach. Everything is contextual.

I'm not here to let perfectionism ruin the show. The concept of openly sharing frees me from the burden of perfectionism and allows me to progress with the project.

If documenting what I've learned inspires or helps just one person out there, that would truly be amazing.

Glad that you stopped by to read this. Let's see what the future brings.
